IEM Cologne Major 2026: A global breakdown of all tournament teams
IEM Cologne Major 2026: A global breakdown of all tournament teams
The CS2 Cologne Major participants are the thirty-two best teams on the planet, gathering in Germany to fight for the most prestigious trophy in competitive Counter-Strike 2. Greetings to all esports fans on the official CSGO-NEWS blog! The upcoming tournament promises to be one of the most spectacular in the discipline’s history. The form of many favorites raises questions, rookies are stepping on veterans’ toes, and the teams’ tactical developments have reached an incredible level.
Our editorial team has carefully studied the latest results, roster changes, and individual player statistics. To make it easier for you to navigate the upcoming matches, we have divided all the teams into several tiers (from F to S) based on their real chances of success in the tournament.

Tier F: Main outsiders (0-3 in the first stage)
Teams: THUNDER dOWNUNDER, Gaimin Gladiators, FlyQuest, NRG For these four rosters, merely qualifying for a tournament of this scale is already a colossal achievement. However, the harsh reality of professional Counter-Strike 2 is that they look completely unconvincing compared to tier-1 teams. These are the main candidates for a crushing 0-3 elimination right at the start. Expecting any upsets or advancement to the second stage from them is absolutely pointless. The main intrigue in their case is purely about which of these four will take dead last in the final tournament standings.
Tier E: Local champions with no chance of a deep run
Teams: Sharks, SINNERS, Lynn Vision, TYLOO, Liquid, M80 This tier looks slightly more promising. Some of these rosters can surprise in a best-of-one format and even make it to the second stage, but their journey will almost certainly end there. Sharks and SINNERS are classic examples of teams that dominate local tournaments. They win trophies in their regions all year, but regional success rarely translates into victories in the playoff stages of a Major. Lynn Vision and TYLOO can traditionally deliver one shocking match, knocking out a favorite, but they lack the consistency for the long run. Special mention goes to Liquid and M80. Both teams are experiencing a deep crisis and are in the worst form of their careers. Their current Counter-Strike 2 gameplay leaves much to be desired, and despite the big names, you shouldn’t expect a breakthrough from them.
Tier D: Problematic middle class
Teams: BIG, HEROIC, MIBR, B8, Monte, 9z, paiN This is a gathering of solid mid-tier teams, each with one fatal flaw. BIG looked great at tier-2 tournaments thanks to the individual play of blameF and gr1ks, but whether that’s enough against the elite is a big question. HEROIC continue to suffer from the lack of a top-tier dedicated AWPer, making their playoff run virtually impossible. MIBR are staying afloat solely on Insani’s incredible form, but one player cannot win a tournament. B8 impress with the talent of npl and s1zzi, but their unstable map pool will be a critical issue in best-of-three matches. Monte have a great map pool, but the team historically gets lost at LAN tournaments, and AZUWU’s drop in form is ruining their T-side. 9z shined at PGL Astana, but their ratings are now rapidly falling. As for paiN, their potential would be much higher with the sniper nqz, but with saffee on the roster, big wins are unlikely.
Tier C: Dark horses of the tournament
Teams: BetBoom, GamerLegion, FUT, PARIVISION, MOUZ Many CS2 Cologne Major participants on this list are capable of destroying any analysts’ predictions. BetBoom and GamerLegion showed impressive gameplay at IEM Atlanta. BetBoom reached the semi-finals, beating Vitality themselves, although their recent roster changes introduce a degree of uncertainty. GamerLegion had a magnificent tour: hypex hit great form, and PR returned to his peak. This team has every chance of making the playoffs. FUT and PARIVISION had a strong start this year but lost some ground by the summer. If they conduct a proper bootcamp, they can get on the leaders’ nerves. MOUZ is a huge question mark. The team just survived roster changes, played two tournaments without Brollan, and is now bringing him back along with a new IGL. Such turbulence rarely leads to success at events of this scale.
Tier B: Solid contenders for the playoffs
Teams: Astralis, G2, Legacy, Aurora, The MongolZ These rosters have real and clear paths to advance through the bracket. Astralis, despite their failure in Atlanta, have generally shown strong and structured Counter-Strike 2 throughout the year. Legacy are flying on the wings of success after winning the CS Asia Championships and are ready to tear it up. G2 is an enigma team. Their firepower is off the charts, but their team chemistry often fails. They can either crush the best team in the world or lose to outsiders. The MongolZ stand out with their aggressive tactics that break classic European strategies. The main concern on this list is Aurora: the team historically crumbles under the pressure of the Major stage.
Tier A: One step from the finals
Teams: Spirit, Falcons, FURIA These rosters are title contenders, although their chances are slightly lower than the absolute favorites. Spirit have found the perfect balance: the game is no longer built solely around the incredible donk, but also relies on tN1R’s consistency. However, a narrow map pool could still play a cruel joke on them. Falcons, led by the experienced karrigan, reached two finals in a row, but psychological pressure broke them time and time again in crucial moments. FURIA won major events just half a year ago, but now molodoy’s slump and yuurih’s inconsistency are severely hitting their prospects.
Tier S: Clash of the Titans
Teams: Vitality, NAVI The strongest CS2 Cologne Major participants this year are undoubtedly Vitality and Natus Vincere. These two organizations have the highest chances of lifting the trophy. Vitality is rightfully considered one of the greatest teams in the history of the game. However, their recent performances at IEM Atlanta exposed several problems: the team looked uncoordinated and tired. It remains a mystery whether this was a temporary slump due to a lack of practice, or a serious breakdown in the team’s mechanics. NAVI, on the contrary, are approaching the tournament at their absolute peak. They knocked Vitality out in Atlanta, proving their superiority. The individual form of their players terrifies opponents: w0nderful, makazze, and b1t are playing at an unattainable level. But NAVI’s main weapon is their pristine map pool. They execute tactics flawlessly on Ancient, Mirage, Dust2, and Inferno. It is this versatility that brings Major victories. If Vitality doesn’t reach perfect form in time, NAVI will close out this tournament without giving their opponents a single chance.
