CS2 Update 2025: A Full Review of the Big Patch Before the Budapest Major

The CS2 Update 2025 has become one of the most large-scale updates released by Valve this year. The big patch was timed to the start of the long-awaited Budapest Major, which begins on November 24, and players now have access to the new tournament hub, fresh sticker capsules, updated autographs, and unique inventory functions. We at CSGO-NEWS have compiled a detailed breakdown of all the changes — from the pick’em system to new visual effects and animation updates.

Budapest Major — The Center of Attention of the Big Update

The main emphasis of the update is the full-fledged tournament hub that appeared in the game exactly 11 days before the start of the Major. Valve continued the tradition: in a separate tab, players can follow the schedule, buy capsules, collect stickers, and, of course, participate in pick’ems.

The pick’ems for the Budapest Major retained the classic structure. To get the Diamond medal, a player needs to complete all objectives: make five correct predictions at each of the three tournament stages, and then guess two quarter-finals, one semi-final, and the final.

The system remains familiar but tense: the slightest mistake can ruin the path to diamond.

Viewer Pass and Coin — What’s Changed

As in previous tournaments, to get the tournament coin, players need to purchase a Viewer Pass. It’s again available in two versions:

  • basic for $10;

  • premium for $18, which includes three souvenir containers.

Additional containers are awarded for upgrading the coin level — from bronze through silver and gold to diamond. Thus, active fans get several ways to replenish their souvenir collection at once.

Budapest Major Capsules: New Stickers, New Ideas

Valve continued to support the Major participants and released capsules with team logos and player autographs. The structure is familiar: three capsules with logos and three with autographs — each depends on which stage a particular team starts from.

Inside the capsules, four types of stickers can be found:

  • paper;

  • holographic;

  • gold;

  • embroidered — a new category that didn’t exist before.

Embroidered Stickers: A Unique Novelty for Collectors

One of the most discussed changes was the new embroidered CS2 stickers. This is a completely new visual format: the textured stickers look like embroidery on fabric, creating a volumetric and slightly rough surface effect.

This is the first appearance of this type of sticker in CS2 — neither regular capsules nor previous Major stickers included anything like it.

After the glowing paper stickers from the Austin Major, the embroidered variants have become the new “feature,” and many collectors have already called them the freshest and most unusual experiment from Valve.

The Best CS2 Autographs at the Budapest Major

Not all autographs turned out equally successful, but several players definitely stood out.

Here are those mentioned most often:

  • Biguzera — the absolute favorite, who placed a beer mug on his signature. Fans recognized this as the most creative solution;

  • Aleksib surprised by writing his nickname… in reverse order;

  • Snow decorated his autograph with a neat snowflake;

  • Lux offered a stylish “smiling” variation;

  • Starry placed his nickname inside a heart;

  • Ropz, previously known for a broken heart, this time made it whole.

And Kyousuke became a meme: fans are still trying to understand what his mysterious signature means.

Sticker Protector — An Important Tool for Preserving Value

Valve continues to experiment with the sticker system, and the CS2 Update 2025 added a fundamentally new item — the sticker protector.

This is a keychain adapter that allows you to temporarily attach a sticker to a skin without applying it “permanently.”

Features:

  • price — $0.50;

  • fits any sticker;

  • allows displaying rare stickers (including legendary Kato) without loss of value;

  • when removed, the protector breaks, and the sticker returns to the inventory.

The idea instantly became a hit among collectors — you can finally show off skins with rare stickers and not be afraid of a misclick.

Item Rarity is Now Highlighted in the Inventory

Another improvement aimed at player convenience is the updated visualization of item rarity in the Steam inventory.

Now every item gets a bright highlight corresponding to its tier. If before only StatTrak, knives, and gloves were noticeable, now distinguishing rarity has become much easier.

This feature helps sort the inventory faster and also makes viewing others’ collections more convenient.

Map Fixes, Work on Animgraph2, and Surfing Improvement

Besides the loud new features, the patch includes many technical fixes:

  1. Skybox fixes on Inferno
    The developers optimized the map, which could affect the pick strategy in Budapest Major matches. Inferno traditionally remains one of the most popular picks.

  2. Development of Animgraph2
    Valve continues to transfer gloves and other elements to the new animation system. The model has become smoother and cleaner, a step towards graphical improvement of the game is noticeable.

  3. Work on surf mechanics
    The developers are adjusting the physics to make surf more stable — a long-awaited change from fans of custom modes.

  4. Performance optimization
    Part of the patch is aimed at increasing FPS, improving texture loading, and reducing stutters.
