The History of Cases in CS2: From the Very First to the Latest!

Counter-Strike 2 continues the traditions of CS:GO, and the case system remains the main source of skins. Over the years, dozens of collections have appeared in the game, each bringing new legendary weapon finishes, rare knives, and gloves. In this article, the CSGO-NEWS blog has gathered all cases in CS2 and CS:GO — with release dates, the most popular skins, and rare drops.

We’ll cover in detail:

  • the types of cases in CS2,

  • when key collections were released,

  • which skins became iconic,

  • what new arrived in 2025.

Types of Cases in CS2

To understand how the drop system works, you should know that all cases in CS2 are divided into several categories:

  • Archived — no longer drop, only available through trading or purchase.

  • Prime cases — most common, but only for Prime status owners.

  • Rare cases — drop chance does not exceed 1%.

  • Limited purchase cases — such as operation cases or unique collections.

This system makes every opening exciting: you never know if you’ll get a popular skin or a rare knife.

The Very First Case in History

The story began in August 2013, when the CS:GO Weapon Case was released. This case became iconic: it was the first to drop the legendary AWP Lightning Strike and AK-47 Case Hardened. Among the rare drops were 65 knives, including Karambit and Bayonet.

This marked the beginning of an entire era of cases and became the starting point for future collections, which continue to appear in CS2.

Case by Case: 2013–2015

In the first years, the game experienced a real boom in skins. In 2013, collections like Operation Bravo Case with the legendary AK-47 Fire Serpent and Winter Offensive Case with the M4A4 Asiimov appeared.

2014 brought Operation Phoenix Case with the AWP Asiimov and the Huntsman Case, which introduced Huntsman knives.

In 2015, the Chroma Case and Chroma 2 collections added the cult M4A1-S Hyper Beast and a whole series of colorful Doppler knives. During this time, case openings became a global hobby for players.

The Era of Gloves and New Knives

Since 2016, Valve expanded the concept: gloves were introduced to the game. The first was the Glove Case, which featured Specialist Gloves and Sport Gloves. Later, new knife models appeared — Talon, Ursus, Stiletto, Navaja.

Every new case became an event, and rare items quickly increased in price on trading platforms.

Modern Cases in CS2

With the release of CS2 in 2023, new collections continued to appear. Players have already opened Revolution Case, Kilowatt Case, and Gallery Case, while in 2025 the list was expanded with the vibrant Fever Case.

For example, the Fever Case included:

  • AWP Printstream,

  • Glock-18 Shinobu,

  • AK-47 Searing Rage,
with rare drops being new knives like Skeleton and Nomad.

Why Are Cases So Popular?

Cases are not just boxes with skins, they’re part of CS2 culture. Players eagerly await each new release, discuss weapon designs, and create hype around rare drops.

Opening a case is thrill, emotion, and a chance to get a unique item. And if lucky — a knife or gloves worth hundreds of dollars.

All Cases in CS2: Final List

Since 2013, more than 40 cases have been released in the game. Each collection contributed to the evolution of the game’s aesthetics.

Today, all cases in CS2 are a whole encyclopedia of skins. From the first AK Case Hardened and AWP Asiimov to modern collections with unique knives and gloves.

Counter-Strike 2 continues a tradition more than ten years long. Each case is part of the game’s history, where design, creativity, and excitement meet.

For collectors, it’s a chance to gather the rarest items. For players — an opportunity to stand out on the server.

CSGO-NEWS recommends: if you want to know which case to open or which collections became legendary, explore all cases in CS2 — because they shape the game’s look and allow every player to find a skin they love.
